Cut on right side of template. The cut off triangle fabric is set to the right side to keep order for future placements and cuttings of right side block.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjAGK6B930jKd017biyca4dMHeKqlbXwMCHJETWI7rsG4qvQiuC-bVl-qZeTlU58bLGlLslP1qrd-_ks_1zyHaH_HdlKsLKE843KCgjO41lhwb2TI-tddd2t96fozw6hT7PlJYGzdtStAR9WoPBlYzNQt97eqr3tozGUNXlDkJ_lEJJB_buk6c_2jAAf90" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="588" data-original-width="467" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjAGK6B930jKd017biyca4dMHeKqlbXwMCHJETWI7rsG4qvQiuC-bVl-qZeTlU58bLGlLslP1qrd-_ks_1zyHaH_HdlKsLKE843KCgjO41lhwb2TI-tddd2t96fozw6hT7PlJYGzdtStAR9WoPBlYzNQt97eqr3tozGUNXlDkJ_lEJJB_buk6c_2jAAf90=w509-h640" width="509" /></a></div><br />After right side is cut, flip ruler so writing is down, as in above photo. It is important to make sure the small tip of template is as close to the bottom tip of the black center, which helps in keeping consistency of the bursts. When working on right side of block, the template is placed with words read correctly. And when working on left side of block the template get flipped so the writing is down. Also very important in making the blocks, one needs to keep the fabrics for right side of block on right and fabrics for left side of blocks on the left. <p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhovSqPBL96ubL4Zml8Ol_ITBtYqNLDcjbdi5dXRx_YucWxFXV0zwJvS7kWHbk2oWszE2w1C_IqVaxXkJCN4s-B0NgVuv_V7_6l045Sz7HDJ-l5XFOng9uk-iqHoeI1MmYt6sWZwPRNpHFdPtUOYP13ljDUM0pe7pPI2Tlnijai0WPZijX0N5Q-baEVo0k" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="622" data-original-width="464" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhovSqPBL96ubL4Zml8Ol_ITBtYqNLDcjbdi5dXRx_YucWxFXV0zwJvS7kWHbk2oWszE2w1C_IqVaxXkJCN4s-B0NgVuv_V7_6l045Sz7HDJ-l5XFOng9uk-iqHoeI1MmYt6sWZwPRNpHFdPtUOYP13ljDUM0pe7pPI2Tlnijai0WPZijX0N5Q-baEVo0k=w477-h640" width="477" /></a></div><p>Squaring up the block is done by cutting off the excess fabrics as shown above. One of my mother's friends recently became a grandma. Yeah, my mom is in her early 90s. So, most of her friends should be great grandmas. This person is about my age. She became a dear neighbor to my parents decades ago. That mode had bugged me for years. This year I decided to do something about revamping the quilt. So, I cut it up and sewed it back together to look like this. Yes, much better!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgSqDBiwJDG13b-F3fkKwgvkCTzqrP92OXCkoCVGO8oi1gDlTv7jhdOna9o1_qSrS0_sbs7Y0subwULwUwTaEb1Eo3D9Js5cusbG74V4iKUXA9eGZwx3fpGNEONl2Y05ctex208x5Unr_Krauj9oFkqz-dTn1nVnP6zNwV3Q-fB-nwW3EVp_WBypiui" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="439" data-original-width="635" height="442" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgSqDBiwJDG13b-F3fkKwgvkCTzqrP92OXCkoCVGO8oi1gDlTv7jhdOna9o1_qSrS0_sbs7Y0subwULwUwTaEb1Eo3D9Js5cusbG74V4iKUXA9eGZwx3fpGNEONl2Y05ctex208x5Unr_Krauj9oFkqz-dTn1nVnP6zNwV3Q-fB-nwW3EVp_WBypiui=w640-h442" width="640" /></a></div> <p></p><p>I didn't like the black borders or quilting on the black borders that were to look like rainbows. While watching Jordan Fabrics Youtube, I came across an easy method for assembling this type of quilt. Jordan calls it the Roundabout. I followed her pattern for what I call my kaleidoscope quilt.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjuHL1GBHb8RxFbr_q5DChhpFduOnxM2hG9LNwIbLQX5GmWedzA43Ufck5j2O5DdxsbDdw0rtGMIwts4IQ_y5c4hlffVN3371SZ0IUbbvxmJyd2IfXcuFrNmM6ne86ewkNalCMiQR6pBMXTwUQOAe5nEcqjxwdN0mcLGm2AAu8x2eXsZm4ssDTtWwBw" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="413" data-original-width="616" height="430" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjuHL1GBHb8RxFbr_q5DChhpFduOnxM2hG9LNwIbLQX5GmWedzA43Ufck5j2O5DdxsbDdw0rtGMIwts4IQ_y5c4hlffVN3371SZ0IUbbvxmJyd2IfXcuFrNmM6ne86ewkNalCMiQR6pBMXTwUQOAe5nEcqjxwdN0mcLGm2AAu8x2eXsZm4ssDTtWwBw=w640-h430" width="640" /></a></div><p></p><p>I wanted my first project of the year to be this project. After weeks of record rains and clouds, I was wishing for Spring and warmer weather. I wanted a quilt with bright, warm colors too!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjpZggrOv4wq0YhcuhYNa_vx9PSV3Jkczt_7J4e-UR0yiMClZ1RA0LNr2p8c3BQOZVWRaT1iGOzvSDcCIM8G-0Sxr7zMRKZD_HykYU0OQbbQqOynISSFOcrQFJBrPYJ0QXsQFSPg7e05jxQqzC32zqVkX7LO5Jt2fB3ms6ltTthP0V-H-RIxvJwpxD9" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="602" data-original-width="472" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjpZggrOv4wq0YhcuhYNa_vx9PSV3Jkczt_7J4e-UR0yiMClZ1RA0LNr2p8c3BQOZVWRaT1iGOzvSDcCIM8G-0Sxr7zMRKZD_HykYU0OQbbQqOynISSFOcrQFJBrPYJ0QXsQFSPg7e05jxQqzC32zqVkX7LO5Jt2fB3ms6ltTthP0V-H-RIxvJwpxD9=w501-h640" width="501" /></a></div><p>I remember as a child looking through those cheap kaleidoscopes seeing a rainbow of colors. That was my goal for this quilt, warmth. I had to purchase a 45 degree ruler for cutting the triangles and some additional fabrics to complement the multi-color, flower background fabric.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh824B5LslhGaXu0GNZR1JBtaf_KlZnY-6nMCvkoaWrEpg_mxYHV3lgNZCnLjvLtmQCHjyUoYCdjE4Uo8rJkv759LAIlV6DrVCYD-VD4HvLgfj2KIkFvhPzS9Ah9QiSuMix8AYZSQT8WMjpUuZ0pS0ih_jZIp7CYS0lO3uxjgl6C7Ly9oWdQRYauf47" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="435" data-original-width="615" height="452" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEh824B5LslhGaXu0GNZR1JBtaf_KlZnY-6nMCvkoaWrEpg_mxYHV3lgNZCnLjvLtmQCHjyUoYCdjE4Uo8rJkv759LAIlV6DrVCYD-VD4HvLgfj2KIkFvhPzS9Ah9QiSuMix8AYZSQT8WMjpUuZ0pS0ih_jZIp7CYS0lO3uxjgl6C7Ly9oWdQRYauf47=w640-h452" width="640" /></a></div><br />I lost count of how many triangles I cut.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEirPODcgX5N8jPsOxRb0kqFqP0VbrzjQ-vB6z_dXdHomuVmQ97wkOErl0L-cdxDEsGfB5Wf-uupTxXIRQsFjnQNcRRiVC___NrIUXorG8dHFNd5mJpVtuAJHdBXbCQjGumPWKsSFuyCFwJKg9-dQhcoM6iSL24RUqQ9UI_SGbmKYLVjbmHCvSddSURp" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="563" data-original-width="476" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEirPODcgX5N8jPsOxRb0kqFqP0VbrzjQ-vB6z_dXdHomuVmQ97wkOErl0L-cdxDEsGfB5Wf-uupTxXIRQsFjnQNcRRiVC___NrIUXorG8dHFNd5mJpVtuAJHdBXbCQjGumPWKsSFuyCFwJKg9-dQhcoM6iSL24RUqQ9UI_SGbmKYLVjbmHCvSddSURp=w541-h640" width="541" /></a></div><br />Assembling my blocks, I made sure of being careful with keeping perfect 1/4 inch seams. <p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEizpY8sYQFIhqtMRivdCikk66-cFb560vWX0S_yhq5uvR4MlQYqWNtoWnUrFtodFQ-LEOR9wkTBtDW5FOE6-raTpfn36AhfFS_00Rwy6Wu981V5gFA-T5z66rkEaM4ekjRtdKKY-7WBehW_roBJhIXyiQX3uiHojOzbcQfZcrK-SpLjxP2Lnxb42Krm" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="403" data-original-width="637" height="404" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEizpY8sYQFIhqtMRivdCikk66-cFb560vWX0S_yhq5uvR4MlQYqWNtoWnUrFtodFQ-LEOR9wkTBtDW5FOE6-raTpfn36AhfFS_00Rwy6Wu981V5gFA-T5z66rkEaM4ekjRtdKKY-7WBehW_roBJhIXyiQX3uiHojOzbcQfZcrK-SpLjxP2Lnxb42Krm=w640-h404" width="640" /></a></div><br />Took me some time arranging my pattern. He asked for more quilts to have a backing of "soft warm material", meaning flannel. I decided to use flannel for front and back of the quilt that I made for him as a Christmas gift. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiO-cGNyStkBucLyh3VIaFvEJP5Js9LXwWj8-YrwsLZw0i_zMTE0rSkcSEWPj4LW-An0k7jSS1oFI15zTsap25l8MshIeJdaRcFXiU9ee3qW_XNDzUNfViLVtbBYh4ylspXQDehY1kiyIANU-WU-2GxUXxrq5yCUOroD-fh4oZ6d2u3yQ3x2i_61FUH" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="510" data-original-width="469" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiO-cGNyStkBucLyh3VIaFvEJP5Js9LXwWj8-YrwsLZw0i_zMTE0rSkcSEWPj4LW-An0k7jSS1oFI15zTsap25l8MshIeJdaRcFXiU9ee3qW_XNDzUNfViLVtbBYh4ylspXQDehY1kiyIANU-WU-2GxUXxrq5yCUOroD-fh4oZ6d2u3yQ3x2i_61FUH=w589-h640" width="589" /></a></div><br />Since I only had less than two weeks to make this quilt, I decided on a quilt-as-you-go quilt. I also tried a new method that I haven't used in my past quilt-as-you-go quilts.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi6ESS8sN4Fmw0PjhlrQTd4NTOGqVPgEDFW-yZkudPXS_Sl-d5mDrXDs6WsXiA_roxnDGJ3999ZdxNIh68Vpi2JwuEl_fyjMpUkBE7yT_9YHKHwov8bNN5VDQNLl4kPiYE5Aub5pqMG37gXs87vjI2K39Ju4Xy0zuVNW7gB9ezgr2y1c64sTTscXh9O" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="516" data-original-width="447" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi6ESS8sN4Fmw0PjhlrQTd4NTOGqVPgEDFW-yZkudPXS_Sl-d5mDrXDs6WsXiA_roxnDGJ3999ZdxNIh68Vpi2JwuEl_fyjMpUkBE7yT_9YHKHwov8bNN5VDQNLl4kPiYE5Aub5pqMG37gXs87vjI2K39Ju4Xy0zuVNW7gB9ezgr2y1c64sTTscXh9O=w555-h640" width="555" /></a></div><br />Blocks were made with batting a quarter inch less all around the block so that when sewing the blocks together only the front fabrics and the back fabrics were sewn together with seam edges on the backside of quilt. While taking a break from the quilt, I noticed some of my outside plants with red petals were still in bloom in December. I decided to add a red flower to the quilt top. <p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhl7RwitlsHPdu6SJtH8Wl1qrrzqyDFx61iUZOOJxeIT_YrVXcXy9VoU22X89E6cQzRDQVTzs6IXtqsmbUQ09Hx4fjdGowRhONWeDtTphqW7TGayMM9t77wOGfhwnt6ax4GjI6kCBEKqIEBcw2ybG-9Y-halFFci44C8vgBC1sfT69cy4GunzAj_BNv" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="427" data-original-width="393" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhl7RwitlsHPdu6SJtH8Wl1qrrzqyDFx61iUZOOJxeIT_YrVXcXy9VoU22X89E6cQzRDQVTzs6IXtqsmbUQ09Hx4fjdGowRhONWeDtTphqW7TGayMM9t77wOGfhwnt6ax4GjI6kCBEKqIEBcw2ybG-9Y-halFFci44C8vgBC1sfT69cy4GunzAj_BNv=w589-h640" width="589" /></a></div><br />I played around with the placement of the flower petals before machine stitching them down.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg_a8KoNHDOWxp085sZBGvAc5T-2vRu2cOtKB1uqu6shXSVaPfoO-QtDeP4j4DF4DDPdqp9sxisp9g4T8cajqS2az7BXGOKl2H0ieRlJLzoJ1TuA-vncL57_4c8012--2m4HG5UoHvxhWANcygTS_0A8HzzKmofiSfrouxdKrxPg_n2AKjqJmTIEDe7" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="510" data-original-width="397" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEg_a8KoNHDOWxp085sZBGvAc5T-2vRu2cOtKB1uqu6shXSVaPfoO-QtDeP4j4DF4DDPdqp9sxisp9g4T8cajqS2az7BXGOKl2H0ieRlJLzoJ1TuA-vncL57_4c8012--2m4HG5UoHvxhWANcygTS_0A8HzzKmofiSfrouxdKrxPg_n2AKjqJmTIEDe7=w499-h640" width="499" /></a></div><br />I decided to change up my method of binding the quilt since all the material is flannel. I didn't worry about making the plaid squares line up. That would have been a nightmare for me! I normally wouldn't have picked a plaid, but it was the only patterned fabric that had the colors as the front fabrics that I liked. My husband was happy to get a quilt with "soft warm material" on front and back of quilt. He will stay warm under his quilt during the cold winter nights while watching tv on our comfy sofa.<p></p>MQuilterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01055414902228765068noreply@blogger.com0
