Fabric Island

I found another use for my kitchen island the other day, a place to cut my fabrics. It's the right height! I don't have to bend down like I did at the kitchen table or treadle cabinets. I wish I had thought of this earlier. Oh well, better late than never.

The Orphanage

Somewhere in machine-land word is out that I'll rescue the free orphans! Yes, another one followed me home. I need to stop reading CL and feeling sorry for these souls. But this one is so cute! The guy giving the machine away stated that it had been his grandmother's machine and he was happy to see it go to someone that would clean it up and use it. Okay, I'm now at the point believing that it's the deceased owners of the machines, the grandmothers, that are finding me. I just wish I had a huge basement to take on more interesting orphans. A huge sewing room full of vintage machines to use and play with would be fun!

Standard Rotary from early 1900s.
The drawers were full of fabrics, a sewing project, clean vintage undies, kids socks that needed mending, and this drawer of cool attachments.

Since I'm still in contact with the previous owners, I asked them what the grandmother's name was so that I could use her name for this cutie of a machine. I love naming all my machines. The reply back was Rose! Sweet! I love the name Rose.

Twisted 60 degrees

I will be making another modern quilt with my elderly ladies. This quilt will be a new bedspread for my daughter. It's a modern look of an equal lateral triangle pieced quilt -just with a twist.
Don't know where the splash of black on white fabric will end up in this quilt. Even for me it's a mystery for now.

An almost finished block. The ends need to be squared up.

Cut and squared up.

Now the twist!

Blocks from first two rows sewn together.

More to go!

Finished quilt top.

Mystery fabric (black and white), red backing fabric, and black, all pieced to frame the modern quilt. The binding will be black to finish off the frame.

Finished back of quilt.
Close up of binding.

Organized!?

I organized the growing stash of fabrics that I inherited from my mom. She had already mailed me two boxes of fabrics, and she recently gave me the remaining fabrics from her stash. Colored coordinated boxes of fabrics now sit on the closet shelves instead of mishmash of fabrics. I still have an extremely large bag of scraps to use up that is sitting on the bottom of the closet. Donation quilts, sachets, postcards, table runners, and more quilts...that should keep me out of trouble for a while. I have enough interesting vintage machines to sew with...now onto the sewing projects!

Thank you Mom!

Flower sachets

These lavender flower sachets were made for my sister and mom. These adorable sachets are so easy to make that I'm going to make more from scraps of my quilting projects.

Aprons for my nieces.

I made these cute aprons using my Singer VS2 and the Eldredge Two Spools. The Two Spools was used for piecing and the Singer VS2 for top stitching. These three aprons were given as party favors to my nieces that attended my mom's 80th birthday.

Belated B'Day Gift!

My son's belated b'day gift! It's more him with the browns, blues, and grays. He loves the back too with the guitar fabric. The pattern is the Plain Spoken which he requested. The white blocks in the front of quilt are really a very light gray fabric that looks white next to all the other fabrics.

Using my 201K to quilt the straight stitches.

Finished quilt with pillowcases!
